Category: Cell Phone Talk
Hi everyone,
This is Sarah here, I just wanted to share an experience I had last night and ask for advice. So yesterday, I went to a local small amusement park. I put my phone in the bins that they have by the rides that people put loose items in. When I got off the ride it {as gone. I tried to track it using Find my iPhone on someone else's iPfoone, and they turned the phone off. It was protected with Touch Id and passcode. So I'm wondering, should I get an insurance claim, or just use my old 4S? My 4S has a lot of issues especially with iOs 8.
If you have insurance on it, depending on the plan, this can be covered. If you are running iOS 7 or later on it, they won't be able to do much with the phone since even if they reset it, the second they bring the phone online, iCloud will recognize that the phone belongs to you and promp them for your password, even if they reset everything. I'd use the 4s for now and file a claime for it. They may want to see a police report or something, it depends on the company. I wouldn't know any specifics about companies, but I'd be looking if I were you. Good luck!
I'd Also check find my iPhone again as they may power the device up, and I've had several clients, and friends who have had good luck with the police locating devices via tthis app.
I just got off the phone with Apple, they tried to track it, via Find My iPhone, and they said it was offline. Whoever stole it, shut it off. I'm hoping I can get it back soon, that was a $700 phone and I only had it for less than 2 full months.
So, you purchased an unlocked model? I was thinking if you were under contract your provider might help with replacement even if you don't have there coverage.
These things are hot, and even with all the security measures, they'll get stolen.
If a thief is lucky and gets one that isn't protected, and I've read over 50% aren't, because people don't like dealing with it, they can get lots for it.
If you live with someone that have home owners insurance, you could make a claim that way maybe.
Last, if you were under contract, see if upgrading to the 6 will get you out.
I bought ge 5S when I was available for an upgrade I am on a 2-year contract. I will call Sprint tomorrow and see if upgrading to the 6 is an opti9n. If it is I will get excited!
You need a police report. Hopefully that will do you.
Could the police track it if Apple couldn't?
No. If you've not found it after this long, it is in Egypt being enjoyed by some blind girl. Lol
Seriously, it's gone.
All the things I've suggested will help you replace it maybe.
I actually found the person who has it. Some guy stole it from me and he sold it to his brother for $100. But I didn't get it back because it's on the stolen list and it is locked. I got a new 5S.
I'd want my phone back. Flat out.
It is on the stolen list, but not for you. It is your device.
Even if I have the new one, I'd still want it back. It is worth money to you, because you can sell it legit.
Unless you don't want to make trouble for that person, and I figured it was someone you knew,.
You said you had the finger print on and such, so they know you well enough to have made that phone usable.
I just wanted to say, I'm sorry you got your phone stolen, even though you know who has it now. I've had my phone stolen once and then another one I lost at the mall of America once, when I lived in Minnesota. I went on a ride and forgot to take my phone off my pocket. It had been attached to me with a belt clip on it's case. That was back before the days of passwords and such and it was just a basic Nokia candybar phone, which didn't talk. I remember when mine got stolen back in 2004. It was freaky!!
Take Care,
Dawnielle
I lost one when I first started using cellphones.
I went to a store and to pay for my stuff I put my phone down on the counter while I was paying.
When I went to pick it up, it was gone.
Weird, because the clerk didn't see who took it either.
From that point, I never put them down.
If I go to a place like this that has rides, I leave it in the car, or if traveling by bus, put it in a locker.
Same with gyms, or such places.
At these times, I'm off line. No calls, text.
